When you have lived at the same address for a number of years, you rarely pay any attention to your house numbers (address).

For Police Officers, EMS, and Fire that may be responding to your house in the event of an emergency, your house numbers are what they are looking for.

Make it a point to LOOK at your numbers to see if:
-All of the numbers are still there
-They are Large enough to be seen easily from the street
-Any landscape vegetation has grown over them limiting their visibility

If YOU can see them, so can Emergency Responders… Thank YOU!

Desert Horizon’s April Coffee with a Cop is coming up!

A big thanks to all those residents that attended our last Coffee with a Cop. It was a great turnout and Precinct Commander Gabe Lopez appreciated the big sendoff.

Our next coffee get- together will be at elly’s. Elly’s is an institution in the Chicago area, long known for its Signature Omelettes, Homemade French Toast, and Morning Sandwiches… to name a few! They’ve brought their delicious breakfast menu to us here in Phoenix with their café on Camelback. As a thank you to Desert Horizon residents, elly’s will be providing free coffee for the event.

Those of you new to Coffee with a Cop, please consider joining us! Coffee with a Cop is your opportunity to meet your local community action officers and patrol officers, ask questions, get informed, and best of all, enjoy some good conversation and delicious food. Acting commander Steve Martos will also be on hand to meet all of you!

Block Watch- Reporting Suspicious Behavior

Debra Wehr of the Phoenix Police Department offers some good advice for reporting suspicious or criminal activity:
 
First and Easiest, If a crime is in progress call 911 IMMEDIATELY. Give the dispatcher detailed information as to what you are seeing. Be a good witness and give gender, race, a physical desription and clothing of the people involved. If a vehicle is involved give make, model, color and the license plate if possible. Do not place yourself in harms way to get this information. Do the best you can from a safe location and distance. If you are comfortable with your position and can snap a photo of the people or vehicle that may also assist in the investigation.

Second, when you see something that doesn’t look quite right, out of the ordinary, or a bit ‘off’ call Crime Stop 602-262-6151. Please don’t call your friends, neighbors, Block Watch Captains or post first. You will have plenty of time to do these things after you notify the police. In addition, the sooner the police are notified the sooner they can respond.

Third, don’t second guess yourself. If it doesn’t look right it probably isn’t. Who knows the neighborhood better than the people living there?? It is not going to hurt to call. (Yes, there are other calls and yes we are busy, but you and your community are important too). The dispatcher will prioritize the call accordingly. Just call!!

So, there you have it…very simple. CALL THE POLICE FIRST!
