March Community Meeting Recap! + Pictures

Thanks so much to everyone who came out to our Block Watch Meeting this Tuesday! It was a packed house & we had some great speakers. Here’s a recap of the information shared:
-Our sponsors were Aioli Burger, Great American Title, & Louisa Ward of RE/Max Excalibur. Thank you for providing great food!

-We are looking for volunteers to help plan our big Community Party in October. If you’d like to help plan or be a sponsor, please reply to this email.
-Sargent James Rothschild shared with us about Silent Witness
*The best way to keep your neighborhood safe is to get to know your neighbors
*All reports to Silent Witness are kept anonymous. A report to Silent Witness does not make a police report
*The types of crimes that are best reported to Silent Witness are felonies, potential drug houses, or chop shops, etc
*Stay connected to Silent Witness by watching their Facebook page or downloading their app on their website. Much more consistent than the news.
*If one of your tips leads to an arrest, you can call back in 30 days to confirm your tip lead to an arrest. They will give you a code & instructions on how to claim your reward anonymously.
*Silent Witness is a non profit organization that depends on fundraisers to continue to serve our community.
-Councilwoman Debra Stark provided updates on District 3
*Walgreens update: Walgreens has paid the lease through the end of the year. Nothing will happen with the building until then.
*Is the Bashas Complex being sold? No official word yet either way.
*Investigation into loud planes flying overhead: Checked with aviation- no flight paths go directly over the neighborhood. If this is your concern, please follow up with Councilwoman Stark.
*Multifamily Housing north of Bashas: There was a hold up with the drainage plan being approved but construction is now moving forward.
*Vacant ADOT Building: Nothing concrete happening yet. Developer from Paradise Gardens is submitting designs to do something creative, possibly mountain biking inspired, with the building. The Desert Botanical Garden is showing interest too.
*N32nd Public Art: Will be installed soon. The art will be hands made of thin metal meant to represent butterflies placed on several telephone poles.
*Remodel/Design of Paradise Valley Mall: New plans have been submitted to the mall’s corporate office to turn a portion of the mall into an our door shopping experience to give the mall new life.
*New businesses coming to the neighborhood: TapHouse Kitchen will begin remodeling the building near the Chevron at 32nd & Shea
*Life Storage will be building storage units on the triangle piece of land at the south east corner of Cheryl & 32nd St.
*Housing development on the northeast corner of Cheryl & 31st street: zoning adjustments were made because of where the garage doors face. Once that has been approved, construction of single family homes will begin.
*Zoning Change requested for a single level office building  on the southeast corner of 37th & Shea.
Thanks again to everyone who came and made this meeting a great success! Stay tuned for more exciting updates and information about our Community Party planning meetings coming soon!
